About Haralampos

Dr. Haralampos Hatzikirou is an Associate Professor of Mathematics at Khalifa University. He received his Ph.D. in Biomathematics from TU Dresden in 2009 as a Marie Curie fellow, following an M.Sc. in Applied Mathematics from TU Kaiserslautern in 2003 and a B.Sc. in Mathematics from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in 2001. He completed postdoctoral work in Biomedical Informatics at the University of Texas at Houston and in the Pathology department at New Mexico University in Albuquerque. In 2012, he returned to Germany to serve as a group leader at TU Dresden and the Helmholtz Center for Infection Research before joining the faculty of Mathematics at Khalifa University as an Associate Professor in 2020.

Dr. Hatzikirou’s research focuses on developing a mathematical theory of cell decision-making in pathophysiological multicellular systems, with applications to tissue development and biomedical challenges such as cancer and bacterial infections. He also develops methods that integrate mechanistic modeling with machine learning. He has authored more than 60 papers, achieving an h-index greater than 25 on Google Scholar, and has secured more than 3 million euros in research funding, including German, European, and Volkswagenstiftung grants. He has delivered more than 30 invited talks and more than 20 contributed talks worldwide and has supervised 6 postdocs, 5 Ph.D. students, and 4 M.Sc. students.
