About Hardik

Prof. Hardik J. Pandya is an Associate Professor in the Department of Electronic Systems Engineering, Division of EECS, at the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. He obtained his Ph.D. in microengineering systems from the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi in 2013. Prior to joining IISc, he served as a postdoctoral research fellow in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Maryland, College Park (2012–2016) and in the Department of Medicine at Brigham and Women’s Hospital–Harvard Medical School (2016–2017). At IISc, he has established the Biomedical and Electronic Engineering Systems Laboratory (BEES Lab) and related facilities focused on integrating biology and medicine with micro-nano technology to develop sensors, minimally invasive tools, and electronic systems for clinical applications, with emphasis on cancer diagnosis, surgery, therapeutics, drug screening, and smart microchips for healthcare.

His research specializations include micro-electro-mechanical systems, advanced healthcare technologies for screening and diagnosis, and micro/nanotechnology-based sensors and transducers, particularly for brain, breast, head, and neck cancers, as well as e-nose applications, cardiovascular pathology, and neuroprotective therapies. He has graduated multiple Ph.D. and M.Tech. scholars and currently supervises a large lab group. Dr. Pandya has received the Early Career Research Award from the Science and Engineering Research Board (2017), the ISSS Young Scientist Award (2020), and the DST Abdul Kalam Technology Innovation National Fellowship (2023). His contributions include five granted patents, multiple patent applications, three book chapters, and approximately seventy-four peer-reviewed publications in journals such as Nature Microsystems and Nanoengineering, IEEE TBioCAS, IEEE Sensors, Journal of Biophotonics, Journal of Biomedical Optics, and IEEE TBME.
