About Hiromitsu

Hiromitsu Maeda is a Professor in the Department of Applied Chemistry at the College of Life Sciences, Ritsumeikan University. He earned his Ph.D. in 2004 from Kyoto University, where he conducted research under Professors Hiroyuki Furuta and Atsuhiro Osuka, and spent time as a visiting fellow at the University of Texas at Austin in 2001. He began his academic career in 2004 as a lecturer in the Department of Bioscience and Biotechnology in the Faculty of Science and Engineering at Ritsumeikan University, advancing to associate professor in 2005. In 2008, he transferred to the College of Pharmaceutical Sciences and was promoted to professor in 2014 before moving to his current position in the College of Life Sciences in 2016.

Maeda’s research centers on the design and synthesis of innovative electronic and photofunctional materials based on π-electronic systems and supramolecular chemistry. He has held visiting positions including Associate Professor at the Institute for Molecular Science (2006–2008), Researcher at JST-PRESTO (2007–2011), Visiting Professor at Shiga University of Medical Science (2017–2023), and Visiting Professor at Strasbourg University (2017). He has served on editorial boards, including as an Editorial Advisory Board member for Chemical Communications (from 2012) and Associate Editor for RSC Advances (from 2015). Maeda has received numerous honors, such as the Chemical Society of Japan Award for Creative Work, the RSC Long-standing Editorial Service Award, the Young Scientists’ Prize from the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (2012), and the Fellow of the RSC (2015).
