About Hongsheng

Dr Hongsheng Hu is a Lecturer in the School of Computer and Information Sciences at the University of Newcastle, Australia. He holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Auckland in New Zealand. Prior to his current appointment, he served as a Research Fellow in CSIRO’s Data61 from October 2022 to August 2024.

Hu’s research focuses on enhancing the trustworthiness of machine learning systems, with particular emphasis on identifying privacy vulnerabilities in machine learning models and developing robust defensive strategies. His work spans data privacy, machine unlearning, adversarial machine learning, and statistical data science. He has published in leading venues including IEEE S&P, NDSS, USENIX Security, NeurIPS, IJCAI, AAAI, WWW, ICDM, ACM CSUR, and IEEE TDSC. Hu serves on program committees for conferences such as USENIX Security, NDSS, ICLR, IJCAI, WWW, ICDM, ECML, and PKDD, and reviews for journals including IEEE TIFS, IEEE TDSC, IEEE TPAMI, ACM CSUR, IEEE TKDE, and Computers & Security.
