Professor Huanfang Du serves as Professor, PhD Supervisor, Deputy Party Secretary, and Vice Dean of the Law School at Renmin University of China. He previously held the position of Party Committee Secretary at the same institution. Du was a visiting scholar at the University of Pennsylvania from 2012 to 2013. He holds multiple leadership roles in professional organizations, including Executive Council Member of the China Society of Private International Law, Council Member of the China Society of International Economic Law, Council Member of the China Society of European Law, and Deputy Secretary-General of the China Legal Education Research Institute. Du is an arbitrator with the China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission (CIETAC), the International Court of Arbitration at the International Chamber of Commerce in Paris, and arbitration commissions in Ji'nan, Ningbo, and Shaoxing, China. He also serves as Secretary-General of the Renmin University International Arbitration Research Institute.
Du’s research interests encompass international private law, international trade law, international family law, international civil litigation, international commercial arbitration, and the law of Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan. His scholarly contributions include analyses of Chinese judicial practice in private international law, such as surveys of choice-of-law issues in civil and commercial cases from 2001 and 2003 published in the Chinese Journal of International Law, as well as examinations of private international law in Chinese courts published in Frontiers of Law in China.
