Professor Hui Ying Yang is a Professor at the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at the National University of Singapore (NUS). She earned her B.S. degree from Nankai University in China in 2002 and her Ph.D. from Nanyang Technological University in Singapore in 2007. Prior to joining NUS, she held positions at the Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD), progressing from Assistant Professor to Associate Professor and then Full Professor. Her academic appointments also include research roles supported by the Singapore Millennium Fellowship and Lee Kuan Yew Fellowship, as well as a research scholar position at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Professor Yang’s research focuses on low-dimensional nanomaterials for applications in electrochemical energy storage and water treatment. She has received numerous honors, including recognition in the Singapore 100 Women in Tech 2025 list and the Energy Rising Star Award in 2026. She is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry and has been ranked among the top 2% of scientists globally. Her work has resulted in extensive publications in leading international journals, with high citation counts reflecting significant impact in materials science.
