Professor Huilian Zhu is Chief of the Department of Nutrition at the School of Public Health, Sun Yat-sen University. She holds an M.D. in Medicine, an M.S. in Nutrition and Food Hygiene, and a Ph.D. in Toxicology awarded by Sun Yat-sen University in 2002. She completed further training as a visiting scholar at the University of Kuopio in Finland from 2001 to 2002.
Dr. Zhu’s primary research focuses on the effects of diet and nutrition on human health, with particular emphasis on choline and betaine as methyl donors in relation to fatty liver disease, brain development, and the prevention of chronic conditions including cardiovascular disease, diabetes mellitus, metabolic syndrome, and tumors. She has secured 15 research grants, including five from the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and has authored more than 60 research papers. In addition to her academic roles, she serves as Vice President of the Guangdong Food Safety Society, Secretary-General of the Guangdong Nutrition Society, Council Member of the Chinese Nutrition Society, and Standing Member of the Division of Elderly Nutrition in the Chinese Nutrition Society.
