Ivan Low Cherh Chiet is a Senior Lecturer and Education Director in the Department of Physiology at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore. He teaches medical and life sciences students and leads curriculum design for adult learning continuing education and training courses focused on exercise physiology and health. He serves as the inaugural Master of Valour House, NUS’s first sports-themed hostel. Low has received multiple teaching awards, including the NUS Faculty of Science Honour Roll Award in 2022, the NUS Faculty of Science Teaching Excellence Award in 2021, and the NUS Faculty Digital Education Award as team lead in 2021.
His research centers on exercise physiology, with publications addressing topics such as mitochondrial redox metabolism in cancer cells, thermoregulation during exercise in the heat, effects of heat exposure on brain function and performance, dehydration assessment in athletes, and the use of ice slurry ingestion for cooling. Key works include studies on Bcl-2 modulation of resveratrol-induced reactive oxygen species production (2010), Ser70 phosphorylation of Bcl-2 (2014), heart rate validation from wrist-worn trackers (2019), and elevated brain temperature impairing cortical motor activity (2024). He contributes to education research on the accuracy of large language models in assessing learning outcomes (2024). Low maintains an active profile on Google Scholar with numerous peer-reviewed articles in physiology and related fields.
