Dr Jacqueline Cliff is Senior Lecturer in Biosciences at Brunel University London, where she joined in March 2022. She combines research in the Biosciences Division with teaching in the Medical School. She read Physiological Sciences at the University of Oxford, earning a BA (Hons), followed by an MSc in the Immunology of Infectious Diseases at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine. She completed her PhD at the National Institute for Medical Research, investigating the role of cytokines in B cell activation and differentiation under Dr Gerry Klaus.
From 1999 to 2022, Dr Cliff worked with Professor Hazel Dockrell at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, focusing on immune responses in tuberculosis and their use in assessing responses to antibiotic treatment. Her research has expanded to include comorbidities such as diabetes in tuberculosis and the role of infection and immunity in Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. She serves as laboratory lead for the CureME team and is co-principal investigator on related NIH-funded work. Her recent publications address topics including the impact of helminth co-infection on mycobacterial growth inhibition, host-directed therapy in diabetes and tuberculosis comorbidity, and transcriptional profiles predicting treatment outcomes in tuberculosis patients with diabetes.
