Professor James Lloyd is an Associate Professor in the Institute for Plant Biotechnology, part of the Department of Genetics at Stellenbosch University in the Faculty of AgriSciences. He obtained his PhD from the University of Bath in the United Kingdom. His career includes a period at the Max Planck Institute of Molecular Plant Physiology from April 1996 to December 2002. As a plant biotechnologist, Professor Lloyd applies modern techniques to improve plants for farmers and industry, with a primary research interest in examining starch metabolism in plants. This metabolite serves as the main carbon store in most plants and influences plant growth and development. He has participated in editorial activities, including attending the Frontiers Editors' Summit and contributing to special issues in plant biotechnology.
