About Jamie

Jamie Evans is a Professor in the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at the University of Melbourne, where he also serves as Pro Vice-Chancellor (Students and Education). He was born in Newcastle, Australia, in 1970. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics and a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Computer Engineering from the University of Newcastle in 1992 and 1993 respectively, and was awarded the University Medal in Computer Engineering. He then completed a Masters degree in Electrical Engineering in 1996 and a PhD in Electrical Engineering in 1998 at the University of Melbourne, receiving the Chancellor's Prize for Excellence in the PhD Thesis. From 1998 to 1999 he was a Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of California, Berkeley.

Evans has held academic positions at the University of Sydney from 1999 to 2001, the University of Melbourne from 2001 to 2012, and Monash University from 2012 to 2016 before returning to the University of Melbourne. His research interests are in communications theory, information theory and statistical signal processing with emphasis on applications to wireless communications systems.
