About Jamie

Jamie Zeitzer is Professor (Research) of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences (Sleep Medicine) at Stanford University. He earned an AB in Biology from Vassar College in 1993 and a PhD in Neurobiology from Harvard University in 1999. Zeitzer serves as Co-Director of the Center for Sleep and Circadian Sciences since 2021. His research focuses on circadian physiology, particularly the effects of light on circadian rhythms and non-image forming light perception, with applications to jet lag, shift work, and sleep timing in adolescents. He has pioneered the use of actigraphy to identify markers of psychiatric disorders. Zeitzer is a member of Bio-X, the Wu Tsai Human Performance Alliance, the Maternal & Child Health Research Institute, and the Wu Tsai Neurosciences Institute. He teaches courses including The Neurobiology of Sleep and supervises graduate and undergraduate research in psychiatry, neurosciences, and bioengineering. His work contributes to understanding and manipulating sleep and circadian rhythms in humans.
