About Jane

Professor Jane Harrington serves as Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive Officer of the University of Greenwich, a role she has held since December 2019. In this capacity, she holds overall responsibility for the management of the institution and its strategic direction, reporting to the University Governing Body. Prior to her appointment at Greenwich, she served as Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Provost at UWE Bristol, where she was responsible for academic faculties, student-facing professional services, research activities, and business engagement and partnership initiatives. Earlier in her career, she held the position of Pro Vice-Chancellor of the Faculty of Business and Law. Professor Harrington has accumulated more than 25 years of experience in higher education, including international appointments in the Canary Islands and India, as well as a role with the United Nations University of Peace.

An alumna of Bristol Business School, Professor Harrington has conducted research and teaching in human resource management, with particular interests in the areas of gender and work and research methodology. Her professional interests encompass teaching excellence and the student experience, social mobility and widening access into higher education, improving partnership working between business and university sectors, and the development of innovative programmes. She brings extensive leadership experience across academic and administrative functions in the higher education sector to her current position at the University of Greenwich.
