Professor Jason Mika is Professor of Māori Management and Associate Dean Māori in the Faculty of Business and Economics at the University of Auckland. He joined Waipapa Taumata Rau University of Auckland in November 2024 in these roles within He Manga Tauhokohoko Auckland Business School and the Department of Management and International Business. His research, teaching, writing, and practice centre on Māori and Indigenous business philosophy and practice in multiple sites, sectors, and scales. Professor Mika is of Tūhoe, Ngāti Awa, Whakatōhea, and Ngāti Kahungunu descent. He was born in Whakatāne and raised mainly in Rotorua.
Prior to his appointment at the University of Auckland, Professor Mika held academic positions including at the University of Waikato as Professor of Māori Management and at Massey University where he served as co-director of Te Au Rangahau, the Māori Business and Leadership Research Centre, and as Senior Lecturer in the School of Management. His work focuses on empowering Māori and Indigenous enterprises. He maintains affiliations with previous institutions including an adjunct professorship at the University of Waikato.
