About Jay

Jay Akridge is the Trustee Chair in Teaching and Learning Excellence and a professor of agricultural economics at Purdue University. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in agriculture and business administration from Murray State University and both a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in agricultural economics from Purdue University. Akridge has served Purdue in various capacities for over 38 years, including as a faculty member in the Department of Agricultural Economics, dean of the College of Agriculture, interim vice provost for engagement, and provost and executive vice president for academic affairs and diversity from 2017 to 2022. He currently focuses on teaching and learning excellence while maintaining his faculty appointment.

Akridge’s research interests include agribusiness management, strategic management, decision-making, and higher education. He is a co-author of the textbook Agribusiness Management. Among his honors are the 2024 Hovde Award of Excellence in Educational Service to Rural People of Indiana, the 2025 Certificate of Distinction from Purdue Agriculture, recognition as a Purdue University Faculty Scholar in 2000, and designation as an Indiana Honorary Master Farmer. He has contributed to editorial boards, including that of the Purdue Agribusiness Review, and remains active in academic and professional service at the university.
