Jennifer M. Lucero, MD, MA is Professor of Clinical Anesthesiology and Professor of Clinical Obstetrics and Gynecology at the David Geffen School of Medicine at the University of California, Los Angeles. She serves as Associate Dean for Admissions at UCLA DGSOM, overseeing medical school admissions, financial aid, and pathway and outreach programs, and as Vice Chair for Inclusive Excellence in Anesthesiology. Her clinical work focuses on obstetric anesthesia, with additional clinical interests in preeclampsia and adherent placental disease. She holds a dual appointment in Obstetrics and Gynecology.
Dr. Lucero earned a Master of Arts in General Experimental Psychology with a focus in Social Psychology from California State University, Northridge in 1997 and her MD from Yale School of Medicine in 2001. She completed residency training in Obstetrics and Gynecology in 2005 and in Anesthesiology in 2010 at UCSF, followed by a fellowship in Obstetric Anesthesiology in 2011 and an NIH T-32 Research Fellowship in 2012, also at UCSF. Prior to joining UCLA, she was Associate Professor of Clinical Anesthesia and Perioperative Care at UCSF, specializing in obstetric anesthesiology, and served as the department’s inaugural Vice Chair of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. She has a decade of experience in medical school admissions and actively participates in the recruitment of underrepresented students to medicine. As a Chicana physician, she takes a special interest in diversity issues in medicine and disparities in the delivery of obstetric healthcare to women of color. Her publications include articles on conscientious objection in anesthesiology, pulse oximetry, obstetric anesthesia approaches, and aversive racism in academic medicine.
