Jia Li is Dean of the School of Economics and Lee Kong Chian Professor of Economics at Singapore Management University, with a courtesy appointment in the Lee Kong Chian School of Business. He previously served as Professor of Economics at Duke University from 2020 to 2021, Associate Professor with tenure from 2017 to 2019, and Assistant Professor from 2011 to 2017. He held a visiting professorship at Yale University in 2020 and joined SMU in 2021. Li earned a Ph.D. in Economics from Princeton University in 2011, an M.A. from Peking University in 2006, and B.S. and B.A. degrees from Peking University in 2003.
His research focuses on econometric theory, financial econometrics, empirical analysis, applied statistics, and macro-econometrics, with numerous publications in leading journals including Econometrica, the Journal of Econometrics, the Annals of Statistics, the Review of Economic Studies, and the Journal of the American Statistical Association. Notable contributions address jump detection and inference in high-frequency data, volatility estimation, and related topics in financial and macroeconomic modeling. Li serves as Co-Editor of Econometric Theory and Associate Editor for Econometrica, the Journal of Financial Econometrics, the Journal of Business and Economic Statistics, and the Journal of Econometrics. He is a Fellow of the Society for Financial Econometrics and has received NSF grants for his work. Li also directs the MSFE program at SMU and contributes to university committees on faculty recruiting, promotion and tenure, and research evaluation.
