Jianhua Zhang is a professor at the Information and Engineering College of Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications (BUPT). She received a B.S. degree from the North China University of Technology in 1994 and a Ph.D. degree from BUPT in 2003. Her research focuses on wireless communications, signal processing, radio channel measurement and modeling, channel simulation, and terminal testing, with particular emphasis on beyond 5G and 6G technologies, massive MIMO, and terahertz channels. She has authored more than 300 articles and holds 50 authorized patents.
Zhang has made significant contributions to international standards, including the ITU-R 4G channel model (ITU-R M.2135), the 3GPP relay channel model (3GPP 36.814), the 3GPP 3D channel model (3GPP 36.873), and the ITU-R IMT-2020 (5G) channel model, where she served as Drafting Group Chairperson from 2016 to 2017. She is currently Chairwoman of the China IMT-2030 (6G) Tech Group Channel Measurement and Modeling Subgroup and the IEEE ComSoc Channel Modeling Subgroup. In 2026, she was named an IEEE Fellow for her contributions to mobile communications. She has received multiple paper awards, including the 2019 SCIENCE China Information Hot Paper Award, the 2016 China Comms Best Paper Award, and the 2008 JCN Best Paper Award, as well as the 18th Chinese Young Women in Science Award.
