About Joacim

Prof. Dr. Joacim Rocklöv is an Alexander von Humboldt Professor at Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg, affiliated with the Heidelberg Institute of Global Health in the Medical Faculty and the Interdisciplinary Center for Scientific Computing. His research focuses on the intersections of climate science, ecology, epidemiology, and data-driven modelling to assess the impacts of climate change on public health and infectious diseases. He previously held positions at Umeå University in Sweden, serving as professor in the Department of Public Health and Clinical Medicine after roles as senior lecturer and associate professor.

Rocklöv earned a PhD in 2010 from Umeå University’s Department of Public Health and Clinical Medicine, a Master’s degree in Mathematical Statistics, and a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics. He received Umeå University’s Young Researcher Award in 2012 and the Prince Albert II of Monaco – Institut Pasteur Prize in 2019 for his work on climate-related arbovirus epidemics. In 2022, he was awarded an Alexander von Humboldt Professorship. He has contributed to international efforts including World Health Organization early-warning systems for tropical diseases and serves as an associate editor for journals while advising bodies on epidemiology and climate change.
