About Jon

A. Jon Goldberg, Ph.D., is Professor Emeritus in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Connecticut and holds an appointment in the Department of Reconstructive Sciences at UConn Health. He earned a B.S. from Drexel University and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Michigan. His research has centered on structure-property relationships in materials, the development of new dental materials including titanium alloys for orthodontic applications, fiber-reinforced composites for clinical dental uses, biocatalyzed mineralization, and high-performance polyphenylene polymers in orthodontics, as well as biomaterial-cell interactions and the design of tissue engineering scaffolds to influence cell behavior, often employing lineage-specific green fluorescent proteins to quantify differentiation.

Goldberg has contributed to publications on topics such as the deterioration of restorative materials, light-polymerized fiber-reinforced composites, clinical evaluations of fiber-reinforced fixed bridges, polypeptide-catalyzed silica for dental applications, and fabrication of hydroxyapatite-coated surfaces for osteoprogenitor cell culture. He previously served as Interim Head of the Department of Biomedical Engineering at UConn Health and received the title of Professor Emeritus in 2019 alongside another longtime dental faculty member.
