Jorge Dias is a Professor in the Department of Computer and Information Engineering at Khalifa University in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, where he serves in the College of Engineering and Physical Sciences. He holds a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering awarded in 1994 and a Habilitation degree in Electrical Engineering awarded in 2011, both from the University of Coimbra in Portugal. His academic career includes prior appointments as Full Professor at the University of Coimbra in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computers, along with research roles at the Institute of Systems and Robotics. Since 2011, he has contributed to the establishment of robotics research and academic programs at Khalifa University, where he coordinates activities in artificial perception within the Khalifa University Center of Autonomous Robotic Systems.

Jorge Dias specializes in robotics and AI, with a focus on artificial perception, computer vision, robotic vision, and autonomous robotic systems. His research interests encompass robotics for sustainability, social robots, and neuromorphic computing for artificial intelligence. He has served as principal investigator and coordinator on multiple international research projects, including European initiatives on social robots and ecosystem surveillance. Jorge Dias has authored or co-authored over 300 publications in international journals, books, and conference proceedings, and he is the author of a book addressing probabilistic approaches for robotic perception. He has organized and chaired major conferences such as IROS 2024 and IEEE ICAR 2023.
