Joseph Schacht, PhD, is an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry-Substance Dependence at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus School of Medicine. He also serves as Co-Director of the Division of Addiction Science, Prevention, and Treatment. Schacht earned an AB from the University of Michigan in 2004, an MA from the University of Colorado Boulder in 2006, and a PhD from the University of Colorado Boulder in 2010. He completed an internship and fellowship at the Medical University of South Carolina.
Schacht is a clinical psychologist and neuroscientist whose research focuses on using neurobiological measures, including functional neuroimaging and pharmacogenetics, to improve treatments for alcohol and substance use disorders. His laboratory conducts randomized controlled trials of novel medications for alcohol, nicotine, and cannabis use disorders, supported by NIH and industry funding. He frequently lectures on medications development for alcohol and substance use disorders.
