About Judith

Professor Judith McCool is Head of School in the School of Population Health at the University of Auckland. She holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Canterbury, a Master of Public Health and Postgraduate Diploma in Public Health from the University of Otago, and a PhD in Public Health from the University of Auckland. Professor McCool serves as co-Director of Te Poutoko Ora a Kiwa, the Centre for Pacific and Global Health. Her academic career at the University of Auckland includes appointments in the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics and progression to her current leadership role in the Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences. She was promoted to Professor in 2024.

Professor McCool’s research focuses on public health, with particular emphasis on global health systems, Pacific health research methodologies, capacity building, tobacco control, and mHealth interventions in the Pacific Islands region and New Zealand. She has contributed to over 100 publications in these areas. In addition to her research and teaching, she has held roles on review panels, including the Master of Public Health Review Panel, and engages in committee and editorial contributions within her field.
