Julian A. Reed is a Professor of Health Sciences in the Department of Health Sciences at Furman University in Greenville, South Carolina. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Studies from Hobart and William Smith Colleges, a Master of Science in Exercise and Sport Sciences from the University of Miami, a Doctor of Education in Exercise and Sport Sciences from the University of Northern Colorado, and a Master of Public Health from the University of South Carolina.
Dr. Reed’s research examines links between environmental supports and physical activity among youth and adults, with a focus on the built environment, physical activity and cognition, and youth fitness and academic achievement. He has authored two books: Activating the Modern Classroom, published in 2018 by Information Age Publications, and Active Education: Lessons for Integrating Physical Activity with Language Arts, Math, Science and Social Studies, published in 2009 by Nova Science Publishers. His peer-reviewed publications appear in journals including the Journal of Physical Activity and Health, Preventive Medicine, Preventing Chronic Disease, American Journal of Health Education, and Journal of American College Health. Dr. Reed has collaborated on community partnerships and health initiatives at local, state, and national levels.
