Katharine Grabek completed postdoctoral studies in computational biology in the lab of Carlos Bustamante at Stanford University School of Medicine, in the departments of Genetics and Biomedical Data Science. Her research focused on comparative mammalian genomics and the genetics of hibernation, including a study examining genetic variation in the seasonal onset of hibernation in 13-lined ground squirrels. Grabek earned her Ph.D. from the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus and previously held positions at the Broad Institute.
Grabek co-founded Fauna Bio, where she serves as Chief Scientific Officer. The company translates discoveries from animal genomics into human therapeutics. While at Stanford, she contributed to outreach efforts, including presentations on her hibernation research to high school students. Her work has been published in journals such as Communications Biology and eLife.
