Kazuaki Ishihara is a Professor in the Graduate School of Engineering at Nagoya University, affiliated with the Department of Molecular and Macromolecular Chemistry. He earned his Bachelor of Engineering from Nagoya University in 1986 and his Doctor of Engineering from the same institution in 1991. Following his doctorate, he served as a postdoctoral fellow at Harvard University from 1991 to 1992 before returning to Nagoya University, where he progressed through positions including Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, and Professor, with his current appointment beginning in 2002.
His research focuses on synthetic organic chemistry, green chemistry, and the design of catalysts, including hypervalent iodine catalysts, acid-base combined catalysts, and asymmetric catalysis. Ishihara has received numerous honors, such as the Chemical Society of Japan Award in 2018, the Inoue Prize for Science in 2011, the Mukaiyama Award in 2009, and the Japan IBM Science Prize in 2007. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry and maintains an active research program with extensive publications in peer-reviewed journals.
