About Kendra

Dr. Kendra L. Rieger is an Associate Professor of Nursing at Trinity Western University, where she joined the School of Nursing in 2020. She holds a PhD in Nursing from the College of Nursing at the University of Manitoba (2017), with a thesis titled “The arts as a way of knowing and expressing in undergraduate nursing education.” Her earlier degrees include a Master of Nursing from the University of Manitoba (2012), a Bachelor of Nursing with Distinction from the University of Manitoba (2005), and a Diploma of Nursing from Vancouver General Hospital School of Nursing (1989). Prior to her appointment at Trinity Western University, she served as an Assistant Professor at the College of Nursing, Rady Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Manitoba (2016–2020), and held adjunct positions at the University of Manitoba and Brandon University. She brings extensive clinical experience in maternal-child nursing and 18 years of teaching experience in nursing education.

Dr. Rieger’s research program focuses on arts-based approaches in healthcare, including arts-based research methods, storytelling, digital storytelling, and knowledge translation to promote health equity and advance responses to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission Calls to Action. As a Michael Smith Health Research BC Scholar, she leads projects on arts-based spiritual care, anti-racist strategies in response to the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls Report, and Indigenous health research methodologies. She has received numerous awards, including the Society for Integrative Oncology New Investigators’ Forum Award (2019), the Association of Registered Nurses of Manitoba Medal of Excellence (2018), and CIHR Frederick Banting and Charles Best Canada Graduate Scholarships Doctoral Award. At Trinity Western University, she teaches courses in knowledge translation, health policy, and research methodology. Her work emphasizes collaborative, patient-engaged, qualitative, and mixed-methods research with communities and stakeholders.
