About Khairudin

Khairudin Aljunied is an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, National University of Singapore (NUS). He received his BA and MA in History from NUS and completed his PhD at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London in 2008. His research focuses on the intellectual history of Islam in Southeast Asia. Aljunied has held concurrent appointments including Senior Fellow at the Alwaleed Bin Talal Center for Muslim-Christian Understanding at Georgetown University, where he previously served as Malaysia Chair of Islam in Southeast Asia. He is the author of numerous books, including Colonialism, Violence and Muslims in Southeast Asia: The Maria Hertogh Controversy and Its Aftermath (2009), Radicals: Resistance and Protest in Colonial Malaya (2015), and Islam in Malaysia: An Entwined History (2019). Aljunied has also published extensively in peer-reviewed journals on topics related to Muslim societies in the region. He is recognized as a leading specialist in the study of Islam in Southeast Asia and has contributed to academic discourse through his writings and research.
