About Konstantin

Professor Sir Konstantin 'Kostya' Novoselov is a Distinguished Professor of Materials Science and Engineering at the National University of Singapore (NUS). He joined NUS in 2019 as the first Nobel laureate to join a Singaporean university and holds additional affiliations with the Centre for Advanced 2D Materials and the Institute for Functional Intelligent Materials, where he serves in leadership roles. Novoselov is also the Langworthy Professor of Physics at the University of Manchester. He graduated with an MSc from the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology in 1997 and earned his PhD from Radboud University Nijmegen in 2004 under the supervision of Andre Geim, having moved to the University of Manchester in 2001.

Novoselov specialises in condensed matter physics, mesoscopic physics and nanotechnology. His groundbreaking work with Andre Geim on isolating graphene earned them the Nobel Prize in Physics in 2010; Novoselov was the youngest Nobel laureate in Physics since 1971 at the time. He has received numerous other honours, including election as a Fellow of the Royal Society (FRS) in 2011, a Knighthood in 2012, the Leverhulme Medal in 2013, and membership in the National Academy of Sciences in 2019. Novoselov has authored or co-authored hundreds of peer-reviewed papers and continues to advance research in advanced materials, 2D materials and intelligent materials systems.
