About Krasimir

Professor Krasimir Vasilev is a Matthew Flinders Professor and Professor in Biomedical Nanotechnology at Flinders University in the College of Medicine and Public Health. He completed a PhD in Natural Science at the Max-Planck Institute for Polymer Research in Mainz, Germany in 2004 and an M.Sc. in Chemical Engineering. Following a postdoctoral position as a Marie Curie Fellow at the Institute of Genomics and Molecular and Cellular Biology in Strasbourg, France in 2005, he joined the University of South Australia, where he was appointed Senior Lecturer in 2009, promoted to Associate Professor in 2012, and to Full Professor in 2017. He has held leadership roles including Associate Head of School-Research, Research Education Portfolio Leader, and Professorial Lead.

Professor Vasilev is an NHMRC Leadership Fellow and has received awards including the ARC Future Fellowship, Humboldt Fellowship for Experienced Researchers, NHMRC Investigator Award, John A. Brodie Medal, and International Association of Advanced Materials Medal. He has attracted over 30 million dollars in research funding, published more than 360 papers, reviews, and book chapters, and is named in the Stanford University World’s Top 2% Scientists list. He is the inventor of five patents and leads translational projects in biomedical nanotechnology, including commercial collaborations on antibacterial surfaces for medical implants and diagnostic technologies. His research focuses on engineering biomaterial surfaces at the molecular level to control interactions with biological entities for applications in medicine and healthcare.
