Dr Liana Roodt is affiliated with the Department of Surgery at the University of Cape Town and Groote Schuur Hospital. She obtained her MBChB from the University of Pretoria and completed her FCS(SA) and MMed (Surgery) Cum Laude from the University of Cape Town in 2016. During her training, she served as Chief Resident and received awards for research within the surgery department. She has lectured pre- and postgraduate surgical students at the University of Cape Town and remains a senior surgical consultant and lecturer at the Groote Schuur Hospital Breast and Endocrine Unit.
Dr Roodt is the founder of Project Flamingo, an initiative supporting breast cancer patients in public healthcare settings. Her research contributions include studies on breast cancer surgical services in South Africa, the impact of COVID-19 on breast cancer diagnostics and treatment, sentinel lymph node biopsy in resource-limited settings, and gender bias affecting women surgeons. She has authored or co-authored publications in journals such as the South African Medical Journal and participated in seminars organized by the University of Cape Town's Gynaecological Cancer Research Centre.
