Lars Lund is Professor of Cardiology at the Department of Medicine, Solna, Karolinska Institutet. Born in 1968 in Stockholm, he initially studied economics at the College of Charleston in South Carolina, USA, and worked for the World Bank from 1992 to 1995. He earned his medical degree from Duke University School of Medicine in Durham, North Carolina, in 2000 and obtained his American medical license in 2001. He completed internship, residency, and fellowship training at Columbia University in New York. He has been affiliated with Karolinska Institutet and Karolinska University Hospital since 2004. Dr. Lund became a specialist in internal medicine in 2003 and in cardiology in 2007. He defended his thesis in molecular biology in 2005 and was appointed Associate Professor of Cardiology in 2011. He was appointed Professor of Cardiology at Karolinska Institutet on 1 May 2018. He also serves as Senior Consultant and leads the heart failure research program at Karolinska University Hospital. His research focuses on heart failure with reduced and preserved ejection fraction, encompassing animal models, translational studies, and clinical and randomized interventional studies. He is recognized as a Highly Cited Researcher and contributes extensively to the field through numerous publications on heart failure mechanisms, biomarkers, pharmacotherapy, and clinical outcomes.
