Lejin Wang is a Professor and Chief Physician in the Department of Ophthalmology at Peking University People's Hospital, part of Peking University Health Science Center. He earned a bachelor's degree in clinical medicine from Chengde Medical College in 1988, a master's degree in ophthalmology from Tianjin Medical University in 1998, and a doctoral degree in life sciences from Huazhong University of Science and Technology in 2008. He completed postdoctoral research at the Cleveland Clinic Lerner Research Institute in the United States from 2002 to 2003.
Wang has held positions including resident and attending physician at Chengde Medical College Affiliated Hospital, strabismus and pediatric ophthalmology physician at Tianjin Eye Hospital, and associate chief physician and chief physician at Peking University Third Hospital before joining Peking University People's Hospital in 2015. His research focuses on strabismus, amblyopia, pediatric ophthalmology, congenital nystagmus, and genetic studies of eye diseases. He has led multiple National Natural Science Foundation of China projects and discovered gene mutations associated with conditions such as retinitis pigmentosa, ocular coloboma, and Meesmann corneal dystrophy, with publications in journals including Science and American Journal of Human Genetics. Wang pioneered minimally invasive strabismus surgery techniques in China and contributed to national screening systems for pediatric eye diseases. He serves on committees including the Strabismus and Pediatric Ophthalmology Group of the Chinese Ophthalmological Society and has received awards such as the Chinese Medical Science and Technology Award.
