About Leonard

Dr. Leonard Bright is a Full Professor at Texas A&M University’s Bush School of Government and Public Service. He earned his Ph.D. in public administration and policy from the Hatfield School of Government at Portland State University in 2003, his Master of Public Administration from the University of Idaho, and his Bachelor of Arts from the University of South Florida. He joined Texas A&M University in 2011. Prior to his current role, he served as Associate Professor and Assistant Provost in the Office of Graduate and Professional Studies from 2016 to 2018, and as Assistant Dean of Graduate Education and Associate Professor in the Bush School from 2013 to 2016. He previously held faculty positions at the University of Louisville and the University of South Alabama.

Dr. Bright’s research focuses on public management with an emphasis on public service motivation. His work has appeared in leading journals including Public Personnel Management, the American Review of Public Administration, and the Review of Public Personnel Administration. He has held leadership roles such as President of the Southeastern Conference on Public Administration and the Metropolitan Louisville chapter of the American Society for Public Administration. Dr. Bright teaches core courses in the Master of Public Service and Administration program, including topics in organizational theory, program evaluation, and leadership.
