About Lilian

Lilian Chee is Dean's Chair Associate Professor of Architectural Design and Visual Cultures at the Department of Architecture, National University of Singapore. She holds a PhD from the Bartlett School of Architecture at University College London awarded in 2006, an MSc in Architectural History with Distinction from the Bartlett School of Architecture at University College London awarded in 2001, a B.Arch with Honours from the National University of Singapore awarded in 1997, and a BA in Architectural Studies from the National University of Singapore awarded in 1995. Her research specializations include architectural design, visual cultures, gender, domesticity, and affect. Chee is the author of the book Architecture and Affect: Precarious Spaces published in 2019. She leads the Research by Design cluster at the National University of Singapore and is recognized internationally for advancing architectural knowledge through her roles as a writer, curator, educator, creative practitioner, and researcher.

Chee brings an interdisciplinary approach to architectural scholarship and creative practice, with achievements spanning research excellence, award-winning creative practice, pedagogical impact, and academic leadership. Her work connects embodied experience and affective evidence with architectural representation, affect theory, feminist politics, and creative practice. She has contributed to the field through numerous publications and is cited in academic databases for her contributions to architecture, gender studies, domesticity, and affect.
