Dr Liz Allen is a demographer and Senior Lecturer at the Australian National University. She holds a B.SocSci (Population Studies) from Macquarie University, an M.SocRes (Methods) from the Australian National University, and a PhD (Demography) from the Australian National University. Her research focuses on demography and population studies, including social trends, population health, health and education inequalities, Indigenous demography, gender and population, census and data collections, and research methods.
Allen has experience in both public and academic sectors. She authored the book The Future of Us, published in 2020. She was named among the national Top 5 academics in the humanities and social sciences by the ABC in 2018 and was named a woman to watch by the Australian Financial Review in 2023. Allen has taught courses including SOCR1001 Foundations of Social Research, DEMO2001 Population Studies, and various qualitative and mixed methods research subjects. She served on the ANU Council as an elected staff member from 2022 to 2024 and held leadership roles in the Australian Population Association, including Vice President from 2012 to 2016 and national council member from 2016 to 2020. She is affiliated with POLIS: The Centre for Social Policy Research in the College of Arts and Social Sciences.
