Lucia Andrade is an Associate Professor in the Discipline of Nephrology within the Department of Internal Medicine at the Faculdade de Medicina da Universidade de São Paulo. She earned her medical degree from the Universidade de São Paulo in 1988. She completed her medical residency in Nephrology at the Hospital das Clínicas of the Faculdade de Medicina da Universidade de São Paulo from 1989 to 1992. Andrade obtained her doctorate in Nephrology from the Faculdade de Medicina da Universidade de São Paulo in 1998, with a thesis titled “A hipercolesterolemia como fator agravante da nefrotoxicidade do contraste radiológico: papel protetor da L-arginina,” supervised by Prof. Dr. Antonio Carlos Seguro. She pursued postdoctoral training at the University of Texas Medical Branch and the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences from 1998 to 2000, supported by a FAPESP fellowship. In 2010, she received the title of Livre-Docente in Nephrology from the Faculdade de Medicina da Universidade de São Paulo, with work on “Injúria renal aguda e crônica: fisiopatologia e fatores de proteção.”
From 2000 to 2013, Andrade served as an Assistant Physician in the Discipline of Nephrology at the Hospital das Clínicas of the Faculdade de Medicina da Universidade de São Paulo. She also worked as an assistant physician in the intensive care unit at the Instituto de Infectologia Emílio Ribas from 1994 to 2012 and as supervisor of that unit from 2012 to 2013. Since October 2013, she has held her current position as Associate Professor. She leads the Acute Kidney Injury Group in the Division of Nephrology at the Hospital das Clínicas of the Faculdade de Medicina da Universidade de São Paulo and the tubulopathies outpatient clinic. Her research lines focus on clinical and experimental acute kidney injury as well as tubulopathies. Andrade has organized and participated in numerous academic events, including courses and symposia on acute kidney injury and nephrology at the Universidade de São Paulo.
