Luke Copland is a Full Professor in the Department of Geography, Environment and Geomatics at the University of Ottawa. He earned a B.A. (Hons.) in Geography from the University of Cambridge in 1994, an M.S. in Geology from Purdue University in 1996, and a Ph.D. in Glaciology from the University of Alberta in 2001. Copland serves as Chair of Graduate Studies in his department and directs the Laboratory for Cryospheric Research. His research examines glacier dynamics, ice shelf and sea ice interactions, and cryospheric changes across northern Canada, including sites in the Canadian Arctic Archipelago, Kluane National Park, and the St. Elias Mountains. He holds the University Research Chair in Ice Dynamics and Cryospheric Changes in Northern Canada. Copland teaches courses including Glaciology, Geomorphology, and Northern Field Research. He has led field programs monitoring glacier retreat, mass loss, and related environmental processes, contributing to understanding of climate-driven changes in the cryosphere.
