Dr Luke Silver is a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Sydney. He completed his Doctor of Philosophy in Bioinformatics and Conservation Genomics at the University of Sydney between 2020 and 2023. His research focuses on generating and using genomic and transcriptomic resources for threatened Australian species. He has investigated the evolution of the immune system and studied how diversity within immune genes is linked to disease traits. Dr Silver has experience in the characterisation of complex immune gene families, in particular the major histocompatibility complex, which is a key component of the adaptive immune system.
Dr Silver is affiliated with the Australasian Wildlife Genomics group in the School of Life and Environmental Sciences at the University of Sydney. He has contributed to multiple research publications on topics including reference genomes for species such as the woylie, population genomics of Australian frogs, and genome sequencing strategies for complex immune gene regions. His work supports conservation efforts for Australian wildlife through genomic approaches.
