Luke Turcotte is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Health Sciences at Brock University. He completed an MSc in Health Studies and Gerontology and a PhD in Aging, Health, and Wellbeing in the School of Public Health Sciences at the University of Waterloo. Prior to his appointment at Brock University in 2023, he held a Health System Impact Fellowship from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research embedded in the Advanced Analytics Branch at the Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI), followed by roles as Senior Researcher and Senior Methodologist at CIHI from 2020 to 2022. He also serves as an Associate Fellow with interRAI, an international organization developing health assessment systems, and as an Affiliate Investigator at the Bruyère Research Institute, with an adjunct appointment at the University of Waterloo.
His research program focuses on improving the quality of care for older adults with complex health needs across hospital, long-term care, and community settings. He applies clinical epidemiology and health services research methods to large linked clinical and administrative health data to evaluate models of service delivery, examine associations between health attributes, service patterns, and outcomes such as health status changes and utilization, and develop clinical assessment tools and decision-support algorithms. He teaches courses including Theory and Practice of Health Program Planning, Secondary Data Analysis, Research in Applied Gerontological Practice, and Community Services for Older Adults.
