About Lynette

Lynette Joy Tippett is a Professor in the School of Psychology at the University of Auckland and a registered clinical psychologist and neuropsychologist. She holds a Master’s degree in psychology, a Diploma in Clinical Psychology, and a PhD from the University of Auckland, with her 1991 doctoral thesis examining visual-image generation processes in brain-lesioned patients. Following her doctorate, she completed postdoctoral training at the Centre for Cognitive Neuroscience at the University of Pennsylvania and the Department of Psychology at Carnegie Mellon University before returning to join the faculty at the University of Auckland, where she was later promoted to full professor.

Tippett’s research focuses on the psychosocial, emotional, and cognitive effects of brain changes associated with neurodegenerative diseases such as Huntington’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease, frontotemporal dementia, and Parkinson’s disease, as well as traumatic brain injury. She has taught neuropsychology for more than 30 years and supervised more than 80 graduate students. Tippett serves as associate director of the Centre for Brain Research, national director of the Dementia Prevention Research Clinics, and co-director of the Auckland Dementia Prevention Research Clinic, and she is a member of the Alzheimer’s New Zealand Clinical and Scientific Advisory Board. In the 2023 King’s Birthday and Coronation Honours, she was appointed an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to neuropsychology and people with dementia. Professional Email: null
