Maitreyi Raman is an Associate Professor in the Department of Medicine at the Cumming School of Medicine, University of Calgary, where she has been a faculty member since 2006. She holds an MD from the University of Ottawa and an MSc in Medical Education from the University of Calgary. Dr. Raman is a gastroenterologist and physician nutrition specialist, certified as a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Canada (FRCPC). Her clinical and research work centers on nutrition in gastrointestinal diseases, including the gut microbiome, inflammatory bowel disease, and dietary therapies for conditions such as cirrhosis and irritable bowel syndrome.
Dr. Raman serves as Director of Alberta’s Collaboration of Excellence for Nutrition in Digestive Diseases (AsCEND) and as the national medical lead for nutrition in gastrointestinal illness. She has authored three books on dietary therapies for cirrhosis, dietary therapies for irritable bowel syndrome, and an eating guide for enhancing the gut microbiome to reduce the risk of chronic diseases. Her contributions include leadership in clinical nutrition research and education, with recognition through awards such as the 2021 Outstanding Researcher award from the Women in IBD Awards and the Khursheed Jeejeebhoy Award for application of clinical nutrition research findings. Dr. Raman maintains an active research profile with numerous publications in her field.
