Professor Mandy Tham, whose full name is Tze Minn Mandy Tham, is Associate Professor of Finance (Education) at the Lee Kong Chian School of Business, Singapore Management University. She joined SMU in 2018 as Assistant Professor of Finance (Education) and was promoted to her current position in 2022. She also serves as Fellow of SMU Academy since 2021 and as Academic Director of the Master of Science in Wealth Management programme. Prior to SMU, she held positions at Nanyang Technological University, where she received multiple teaching awards. Professor Tham holds a Ph.D. in Finance (2008) and an M.A. in Applied Economics (2006) from the University of Michigan, as well as M.Eng. (2002) and B.Eng. (1999) degrees in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from the National University of Singapore.
Her research interests include behavioural finance, investments, and wealth management. She has published in leading journals such as the Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, Journal of Financial Economics, and Management Science. Notable works include “Peer effects in equity research” (2023), “Executive overconfidence and securities class actions” (2018), “Are overconfident CEOs good leaders? Evidence from stakeholder commitments” (2018), and “Spillover Effects in Mutual Fund Companies” (2015). She co-authored the book “FinTech: The New DNA of Financial Services” with Pranay Gupta (De Gruyter, 2018) and contributed an article to Harvard Business Review in 2018. Professor Tham has received several awards, including the CFA Best Paper Award at the Asian Finance Conference (2016), multiple best paper awards at international conferences, and teaching excellence awards at NTU. She has developed case studies on wealth management topics and contributes to initiatives at the Business Families Institute at SMU.
