Dr Manoj Menon is a Lecturer in Soil/Environmental Science in the School of Geography and Planning at the University of Sheffield. He began his lectureship at the Department of Civil and Structural Engineering in 2011 before moving to the Department of Geography in 2015. Prior to joining Sheffield, he served as a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Nevada from 2007 to 2008 and at the University of Leeds from 2009 to 2011. He earned his doctoral degree in environmental sciences from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) Zurich in 2006.
Dr Menon’s research focuses on the physical, hydrological, and chemical processes influencing soil health, with particular emphasis on toxic trace elements such as arsenic and their presence in the environment and impact on the food chain. He serves as the international coordinator of the Arsenic in Rice Research Network and as Associate Editor of the journal Exposure and Health. His career includes contributions to numerous journal articles and book chapters on topics including soil structure, root systems, biochar applications, and arsenic mitigation in rice. He maintains an active role in advancing understanding of soil processes and environmental contaminants through his academic appointments and editorial work.
