About Maokun

Maokun Li is a professor in the Department of Electronic Engineering at Tsinghua University, where he serves at the Microwave and Antenna Institute. He earned a B.S. degree in electronic engineering from Tsinghua University in 2002 and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2004 and 2007, respectively. Following his doctorate, he worked as a research scientist and later senior research scientist at Schlumberger-Doll Research in Cambridge, Massachusetts, before joining Tsinghua University as an associate professor in 2014 and advancing to full professor in 2023.

His research focuses on electromagnetic theory and computational electromagnetics, with emphasis on fast and reliable modeling and inversion algorithms for electromagnetic wave propagation in complex environments and applications in geophysical exploration and biomedical imaging. He serves as an associate editor for the IEEE Transactions on Antennas and Propagation, the IEEE Transactions on Geoscience and Remote Sensing, and the IEEE Journal on Multiscale and Multiphysics Computational Techniques. He is a member of the IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society membership and benefits committee and served as an IEEE AP-S Distinguished Lecturer from 2023 to 2025. Li was elected an IEEE Fellow in 2025 and a Fellow of the Applied Computational Electromagnetics Society in 2022. He has received the 2017 IEEE Ulrich L. Rohde Innovative Conference Paper Award, the 2019 PIERS Young Scientist Award, and the 2021 Instructor Award for Excellent Ph.D. Thesis from the China Education Society of Electronics.
