About Marcelo

Marcelo Knörich Zuffo is a full professor in the Departamento de Engenharia de Sistemas Eletrônicos at the Escola Politécnica da Universidade de São Paulo (Poli-USP). He earned his electrical engineering degree from Poli-USP in 1989, followed by a master’s degree in electrical engineering in 1993 and a PhD in electrical engineering in 1997, all from the same institution. In 2001 he completed his livre-docência in the specialty of Meios Eletrônicos Interativos at Poli-USP.

Zuffo coordinates the Grupo de Computação Visual e Meios Eletrônicos Interativos at the Laboratório de Sistemas Integráveis and has served as director of the Centro Interdisciplinar em Tecnologias Interativas (CITI-USP) since 2011 and as coordinator of the Centro de Inovação da USP (InovaUSP) from 2022 to 2025. His research focuses on interactive electronic media, virtual reality, scientific visualization, and interactive technologies applied to health. He led the development of the first CAVERNA Digital (Cave Automatic Virtual Environment) in Latin America and contributed to the INSPIRE low-cost emergency ventilator project during the COVID-19 pandemic. Zuffo has received several honors, including the Prêmio Mercosul de Ciência e Tecnologia in 2018, the title of Professor do Ano from the Associação dos Engenheiros Politécnicos in 2021, and the Medalha Armando de Salles Oliveira. He maintains an active publication record in his fields of expertise and has held leadership roles in national and international scientific organizations.
