About Marcos César

Professor Marcos César Ferreira is an Associate Professor in the Department of Geography (DGEO) at the Institute of Geosciences of Universidade Estadual de Campinas (UNICAMP). He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Geography from UNESP (1987), a Master’s degree in Remote Sensing from the National Institute for Space Research (INPE, 1991), a PhD in Physical Geography from the University of São Paulo (USP, 1995), and the Livre-Docente qualification from UNICAMP (2004). He began his academic career at the Institute of Geosciences and Exact Sciences of UNESP, where he served as faculty in the Department of Cartography and Geographic Information Analysis and coordinated the postgraduate program in Geography. Since joining UNICAMP in 2001, he has taught in undergraduate and postgraduate programs in Geography and coordinated the postgraduate program in Geography at the Institute of Geosciences from 2002 to 2004.

His research centers on geographic information systems, remote sensing, spatial analysis, thematic cartography, and digital processing of orbital images. He leads the CNPq-certified research group Advanced Methods of Geospatial Analysis and has supervised 10 doctoral theses, 20 master’s dissertations, and 9 undergraduate research projects or final papers. He has participated in numerous examination boards for doctorates, master’s degrees, monographs, and public competitions for higher education faculty positions. Ferreira is the author of the book Iniciação à Análise Espacial (Editora Unesp, 2014), which was a finalist for the Prêmio Jabuti 2015.
