Dr. Maria du Toit serves as Clinical Lecturer in Speech-Language Pathology in the Department of Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology at the University of Pretoria. She earned a B. Communication Pathology (Speech-Language Pathology) from the University of Pretoria in 2015 and an MA (Speech-Language Pathology) from the same university in 2017. She completed her PhD in Speech-Language Pathology through the University of Pretoria in 2020.
Her research interests encompass community engagement and development, early identification of developmental delays, voice disorders, and mHealth developmental screening. She maintains membership in the Health Professions Council of South Africa. In her teaching role, she acts as module coordinator and clinical supervisor for SPP 481 and 482, addressing Voice Disorders, Community-Based Rehabilitation, and Kangaroo Mother Care. She has authored or co-authored peer-reviewed publications, including a 2017 paper evaluating a Zulu translation of the Parents' Evaluation of Developmental Status published in the African Journal of Primary Health Care & Family Medicine and work on early detection of developmental delays in vulnerable children by community care workers using an mHealth tool.
