Dr Marie Spreckley is a Research Programme Manager and researcher at the MRC Epidemiology Unit, University of Cambridge, specialising in weight management research and clinical practice. She holds a PhD in Sustainable Weight Loss from Vrije University Amsterdam, an MSc in Obesity and Weight Management from the University of South Wales, an MBus in International Business, and a BA in International Relations and Political Science from the University of Queensland. She is a Registered Nutritionist (AfN) with RNutr (Public Health) credentials. Her research draws on clinical expertise to investigate behavioural and psychological factors influencing long-term weight management, with a focus on integrating lifestyle changes and clinical care for sustainable health outcomes, including work on underserved populations. She serves as Principal Investigator of the AMPLIFY study and Co-Investigator on the SPROUT study, and manages the five-year Supporting Weight Management (SWiM) research programme evaluating acceptance-based interventions for weight management and diabetes prevention. Previously, she gained extensive clinical experience delivering evidence-based interventions in NHS weight management services and private practice, and contributed to teaching on MSc programmes in Obesity and Weight Management, Diabetes, and Preventative Cardiovascular Medicine at the University of South Wales. She also teaches on the MPhil in Population Health Sciences at the University of Cambridge and acts as a PhD project advisor. Additional roles include Postdoctoral Affiliate at Clare Hall, Committee Member of the Race Equality Network at the University of Cambridge, Research Development Officer on the Postdocs of Cambridge Society Committee, and Editorial Board Member of the Cambridge Journal of Science & Policy. Key publications include the 2026 paper Nutrition Strategies for Next-Generation Incretin Therapies: A Systematic Scoping Review of the Current Evidence in Obesity Reviews, the 2025 paper Bridging the nutrition guidance gap for GLP-1 receptor agonist therapy assisted weight loss in the International Journal of Obesity, and multiple qualitative studies on patient experiences with primary care-led weight management interventions published between 2021 and 2023 in journals such as PLOS ONE and the International Journal of Qualitative Studies on Health and Well-being. Her work contributes to advancing understanding of incretin-based therapies, nutritional support, and behavioural interventions in obesity care.
