Mark Chong is Professor of Communication Management (Practice) at the Lee Kong Chian School of Business, Singapore Management University. He holds a Ph.D. and an M.S. from Cornell University. His academic appointments at SMU include Area Coordinator of the Communication Management Group since 2018 and SMU-X Academic Champion and Mentor since 2021. He is also appointed Dean of Students at Singapore Management University effective January 2026. Previously, he served as Visiting Professor at the Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2025.
Professor Chong’s research focuses on consumer acceptance of novel food technologies, including cultivated meat, with publications in journals such as Future Foods, Journal of Environmental Psychology, Appetite, and Asian Journal of Social Psychology. His work has been cited by the World Health Organization and FAO. He has received numerous teaching awards at SMU, including the SMU Teaching Excellence Award, SMU-X Excellent Teacher Award, and the SMU Faculty Contribution to Student Life Award. He is a member of the Arthur W. Page Society and has delivered invited talks and keynotes on topics including consumer acceptance of alternative proteins and risk communication regarding novel foods.
